It’s strawberry time. How do you want yours?

There is a Strawberry Festival every year in Plant City, Florida.  This year’s festival was held March 1 thru March 11. It was huge and the strawberries were even huger (Is that a word?) !  People come from everywhere to attend this ten daycelebration brimming with live entertainment and more recipes using strawberries than you can imagine.  They eat the biggest and best strawberries grown right there in Plant City, the capital of  the strawberry.  If you love strawberries than this is the place you need to be.  Everything there is made with strawberries…  I am sad to say I did not make it this year but that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy eating fresh strawberries.

One of my favorite strawberry recipes is from my sister in law.  When I would go visit her in Florida we would stay up all night sewing and hanging curtains, painting walls, moving furniture, hanging pictures while eating Strawberries Romanoff and drinking white wine or champagne.  Oh my gosh, we had the best time!

Vicki liked to do things fast and the easiest way possible.  Although she was fast she was also a perfectionist.  Everything had to be done perfect and it had to be, well,  a bit different.  It had to look good and taste even better.  Her recipe for Strawberries Romanoff is the quickest and most delicious I have ever tasted.  When I get rave reviews I kinda hate to admit how darn easy it is to  prepare!… I mean it is just so simple!  Vicki had a few variations, but this one was her favorite.  She would get a large plate then add little piles of (1) granulated sugar, (2) confection sugar, and (3) brown sugar.  She then put sour cream in a small bowl and placed that bowl on the same large plate with the sugars.  In a larger bowl she would put the fresh juicy red strawberries that had been washed and hulled.  We would then pick a strawberry, dip it in the sour cream then dip it in one or all of the sugars, then slowing bite into it and ahhhhhhh, it was so good.  The evenings just drift away.

Another variation of Strawberry Romanoff is to mix the following ingredients in a bowl:

1/2 cup sour cream
3 teaspoons brown sugar
2 teaspoons brandy (or vanilla)
4 cups fresh strawberries

You use this as a sauce to dip the strawberries or you can place the strawberries in 4 individual goblets and top the berries with the Romanoff sauce.

Served either way, this is a surprise dessert that everyone will enjoy.

It’s almost too easy to admit to… Oh, and be sure to get your strawberries fresh.  Maybe I will see you next year at the Florida Strawberry Festival.
