4th of July Party? Fun, Food, and fireworks

You have to be living in a cave if you don’t know it’s almost July 4th!  I went to the grocery store and it is red, white, and blue everywhere!  Cakes, cookies, ice cream, hot dogs, buns, magazines all showing their colors and sharing ideas on how to party and entertain on this Independence Day.

Here are a few tips to help make your 4th of July a big bang…

  • To keep things you and your guests cool provide “frozen wash cloths” in a cooler or a big tub.  The key is to fill the bottom of your ice chest with water and ice, followed by the wash cloths.  Roll the wash cloths. Some people tie them with string but that isn’t necessary.  When you guest want to cool down they can reach in get an icy cold cloth and hold to the back of their neck or head for a quick body cool down.
  • Set up tables in separate areas―say, drinks in one spot, dessert in another―to encourage guests to mingle.

  • Use Popsicle sticks to distinguish the rare burgers from the well-done and to label the different foods and dips. (from Real Simple)

  • Place citronella candles and sticks around the party area.  Light these about 1/2 hour before dusk to keep the biting pests away.

  • An easy festive dessert is a Strawberry, Blueberry Trifle! I always thought these were so hard to make… was I ever mistaken.  A trifle is one of the easiest and prettiest desserts ever.

So what are your quick and easy tips for entertaining?
